What's better than enjoying a great movie inside? Watching it outside! Warm summer nights offer the perfect opportunity to lay out a blanket or a lawn chair, gather up your loved ones, and enjoy a classic flick under the stars. Luckily, there is a large selection of outdoor movie events in Columbus throughout the summer ranging from 21+ events to family-friendly gatherings — some are even free! To ensure that you don't miss a second of the action, we rounded up a few of the best movie series and drive-in theaters around town. So, pick a night (or a favorite film) and enjoy the show!   OUTDOOR MOVIE SERIES

Grove City Fryer Flicks on the Hill

The Fryer Flicks on the Hill series is one of Grove City's favorite summertime events. The films will be projected every Thursday through July on a large inflatable screen after dark on the sledding hill at Fryer Park! Pack a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a great lineup of classic films. You can bring your own snacks (as long as there is no glass) and additional refreshments will be available for purchase.

Topiary Park Summer Movie Nights

Topiary Park, Columbus Select Fridays Throughout the Summer Arrive early to claim your spot for the Topiary Park Summer Movie Series — the event is (understandably) pretty popular among locals. Enjoy some of your favorite films in the picturesque Topiary Park. The movies begin at dusk and free popcorn will be provided! Check out the events page to see the lineup and schedule.

Free Movies at Columbus Commons

John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons, Columbus June 29 + July 13 This family-friendly movie series takes place on June 29 and July 13 this summer. The film begins at dusk and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams and Tortilla will be available on site for movie refreshments. Bring your own blankets to secure a spot for you and your family!

NightLight 614 takes movie night up a notch with local food trucks, craft beer and wine, and a spectacular view of the Columbus skyline! This 21+ Thursday night series continues throughout the summer and is a must-attend event if you're in the area. The 2018 schedule includes classic flicks like The Breakfast Club, The Devil Wears Prada and Almost Famous. Check their website for details and the full schedule!

Free Outdoor Movies at Columbus Metro Parks

Location Varies Night Varies If you love movies and you love Columbus Metro Parks, you should make sure to explore this free outdoor film series this summer. Now through the end of August, the Metro Parks will host classic films and blockbusters at different locations around town. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks to enjoy a film with the family in the great outdoors! The schedule this year includes movies like Wonder Woman, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Coco.

Movies by Moonlight at the Easton Town Center

Easton Town Center, Columbus Tuesday Evenings Bring your blanket, your family and a bucket of popcorn for this summer movie series! The movies play every Tuesday evening through the end of the season (with the exception of July 3 in honor of Independence Day), and titles include Peter Rabbit, Beauty and the Beast and The LEGO Movie.

The Gateway Picture Show

Gateway Plaza, Columbus Second Wednesday of Every Month The Gateway Picture Show will return this summer with an impressive lineup of Cinematic hits for your enjoyment! On the second Wednesday of every month from June to September, Gateway will be showcasing "firsts" in classic movie sagas. Think: Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Fast and the Furious, Back to the Future and Pitch Perfect. They recommend bringing your own lawn chairs for sitting and arriving early to enjoy craft beer specials from World of Beer.

Dive-in Movies at Zoombezi Bay

Zoombezi Bay Waterpark should be on your list of fun summer activities, but you'll get a special after-dark treat if you choose to go on select dates in June, July and August! The park will stay open late (until 11 pm) for a special cinematic experience featuring some of your favorite family-friendly flicks. Although you do have to pay admission to get in, the movies are a free addition — and we definitely recommend staying to see the Wave Tides Wave Pool transform into an outdoor theater! Find the schedule of films on the event page here.   DRIVE-IN THEATERS

The South Drive-In Theater

3050 South High Street, Columbus South Drive In

The South Drive-in Theater was built back in 1950 when drive-in theaters were thriving. Though there were many more in the area and around town back then, the South Drive-in is one of only two drive-in theaters that remain open. The theater plays the latest flicks on a giant screen and allows you to enjoy them from the comfort of your own car in an old-timey setting. It's a charming destination for date nights and family outings alike. Bonus: The South Drive-in Theater is also the site of a Saturday flea market — the equivalent of 200 yard sales and garage sales in one central location. Get there early to get the best deals!

The Skyview Drive-In

2420 East Main Street, Lancaster Located just outside of town in Lancaster, the Skyview Drive-In is a beloved and historic staple in the area. The staff here are always friendly and welcoming, fostering a family atmosphere that is sometimes hard to come by in popular spaces. Tickets are just $8 each for those older than 12 ($4 for those ages 3-12, free for ages 3 and under), so it's an affordable way to experience the latest cinematic hit under the stars!

Enjoy your movie!
